The Shelby County Amateur Radio Emergency Services (SCARES), operating under the call sign K8ZUK, plays a vital role in supporting the Shelby County community through emergency and public service communications. Established in 1969, this dedicated organization of licensed amateur radio operators exemplifies the spirit of volunteerism and technical expertise.

  • Shelby County Sheriff and Sidney Police
  • Health Department and Sidney Alive
  • Community Events: July 4th Fireworks, Winter Wonderland Parade, and 5K runs.

The group actively participates in ARRL exercises such as Field Day and the Simulated Emergency Test (SET), ensuring readiness for disaster scenarios. Most members are certified weather spotters trained by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Wilmington, Ohio.
