Club Description: The San Bernardino Microwave Society has been a hub for microwave experimentation and operation since 1955. The society focuses on frequencies above 1000 Mc/s and includes activities like:

  • Narrowband weak signal contests and QSOs from mountaintop, portable, roving, and home stations.
  • Amateur satellite and earth-moon-earth operation.
  • Analog and digital amateur television.
  • MESH networks and reception of weather satellites or other weak signal sources.

The club utilizes state-of-the-art technologies, ranging from home-brewed to adapted surplus equipment, promoting both amateur and professional growth among its members.

Activities:

  • Major participation in the ARRL "10 GHz and Up" competition every August and September.
  • Sponsorship of the "2 GHz and Up" competition each spring.

Projects: The SBMS is developing an 'open source' microwave beacon design to extend beacon capabilities in Southern California and promote microwave development and experimentation.
