Repost: VU4AX – Andaman Islands DXpedition Update

At 11:00z on March 9, 2025, our team’s journey for the VU4AX DXpedition hit a series of unexpected hurdles. We kicked off our adventure in Kortrijk, Belgium, and headed by bus toward Paris. Everything was smooth—until check-in, when a visa issue with Marc ON4AMX halted his boarding.

As if that wasn’t enough, our meticulous luggage process fell apart: despite having 47 suitcases neatly organized, the system crashed, and we were hit with a new bill for 7 oversized pieces already paid for. With no choice but to pay again, we scrambled to rebook flights, and Marc is still in Paris awaiting a new visa before joining us.

Fortunately, we finally arrived in New Delhi at 8:15 AM local time with all our luggage after overcoming a tense customs clearance, thanks to the dedicated support of Air India personnel. With new tickets in hand, we’re now set for our flight to the Andaman Islands.

Amidst all the last-minute stress—ranging from changes in Indian licensing (now reissued as VU4AX) to unexpected baggage challenges—the team remains determined to complete our mission. Our heartfelt thanks go to Catherine Bernard, Lenka Farre, and Patricia Thiry of Air India Paris for their relentless support (a box of Belgian chocolates has been sent in appreciation).

Despite the hurdles, we’re ready to board and set sail to dry land. We’re also excited to announce that our initial activation from the Andaman Islands as VU4AX is scheduled from March 10–20, 2025, where we’ll be on HF bands with CW, SSB, and digital modes.

Thank you to everyone for your patience and support during this “never-ending story.” 73 and happy DXing!
