Repost: C5YX – The Gambia DXpedition Update

Gert, PA2LO, reports that although the C5 prefix isn’t rare, ham radio activity from The Gambia had been dormant until recently. In 2025, interest is booming from “the smiling coast of Africa” with multiple operators on the air:

  • Recent Activity:
In February, POTA enthusiasts activated as C5PL, followed by brief CW operations by Alan (C5DX) and C5PWL. In April, Lui (as C5LT) and Luc (as C5R) are scheduled for a more comprehensive “all mode, all band” DXpedition.

  • Our Focus:
Given this surge, I’ve decided to streamline my setup and focus primarily on SSB (with some CW) rather than deploying antennas for every band.

  • Operation Details:

    • QTH: Bijilo, Locator: IK13pk
    • Dates: March 16–25, 2025
    • QSL: Log uploads via LoTW and Club Log are available daily. Paper QSLs can be requested via my home call (PA2LO) through bureau or direct channels.

A special thanks to everyone who assisted in securing the C5 license and provided vital information on operating in The Gambia. Your support is greatly appreciated!

73 and happy DXing!
