Repost: AU2V – Sacrifice Rock, AS-161 DXpedition Update

We made it back! Our entire team has safely returned from Sacrifice Rock to the mainland, and all medical concerns have been addressed despite some challenging moments during the expedition.

Operating Highlights:

  • Achieved 6,668 contacts in just 48 hours with two stations.
  • Primarily operated on CW and SSB, with digital modes (FT8/FT4) stepping in when SSB conditions were tough.
  • Successfully completed DXCC, with over 12% of contacts coming from North America.

Log & QSL Information:

  • Our log will be available starting tomorrow, and our dedicated QSL manager is processing requests as quickly as possible.
  • QSLs will be available via Club Log, bureau, and direct options.

What’s Next:

  • We’re excited to introduce “DXIndia,” our new group dedicated to activating all Indian IOTAs (including VU4/VU7), giving chasers a chance to work these rare entities.
  • Our next adventure is on the horizon—look for our activation during the upcoming CQWPX-SSB contest, with a focus on SSB operations.
  • We’re also seeking support to upgrade our gear. If you can help with HF radios, amplifiers, band-pass filters, or generators, your contribution would be greatly appreciated!

Additional Updates:

  • A medical emergency forced two team members to leave the rock, with a key team member and my brother injured during boarding—wishing them a speedy recovery.
  • We’ve been actively operating on low bands (80m and 160m) on CW and FT8, despite QRN challenges, and the first 6m QSOs are starting to come in.
  • Our log software hiccup (displaying VK9CU instead of VK9XU) has been corrected—please update your logs accordingly.

A huge thank you to our incredible sponsors, donors, and supporters—your encouragement and contributions made this unforgettable DXpedition possible.

Until next time, stay hammy and 73!

— VU2RS and the AU2V Team
