Quiet Connections on the Peninsula: The Frankston & Mornington Peninsula Amateur Radio Club

Nestled in the radio noise-free environment of Cornish College at Bangholme, east of Melbourne, the Frankston & Mornington Peninsula Amateur Radio Club (FAMPARC), proudly known by its callsign VK3FRC, boasts a rich history dating back to 1975, celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2015.

A significant asset of FAMPARC is its permanent and independent clubrooms, providing a dedicated space for members to connect and utilize their well-equipped radio shack and test bench. This fosters a strong sense of community and shared learning.

The FAMPARC clubrooms are located within the grounds of Cornish College on Riverend Road, Bangholme. The club meets regularly on Wednesday and Saturday mornings between 9:30 am and 1:00 pm. Members and visitors planning to attend on Saturday are advised that the college gate may be locked. In such cases, access can be gained by calling the club on their simplex frequency 146.425 MHz or by phoning 0490 900 279.

Since 2004, the club station has been a valuable resource, available for use by all suitably licensed members. Their versatile Icom rig can be switched between an 80-meter dipole and an Ultra 640 beam antenna, further enhanced by a SPE Expert amplifier. Situated in a quiet RF location, the club station proves particularly beneficial for members residing in noisy areas or those unable to erect a beam antenna at their home QTH.

FAMPARC also hosts a weekly Radio Net on Tuesdays at 8:00 pm Melbourne time. Club members and friends gather on Repeater VK3RMC, skillfully controlled by one of their valued members. The repeater details are as follows: Call Sign: VK3RMC, Output Frequency: 147.325 MHz, Input Frequency: 147.925 MHz, Repeater Tone: 91.5 Hz. The club gratefully acknowledges the support of the Moorabbin & District Radio Club Inc. for the use of this repeater.

For those interested in obtaining their Foundation amateur radio license, FAMPARC also runs a Foundation Course. Further details can be found on their website at www.vk3frc.org.au.

The club's training course coordinator is S Raju Subramani VK3IR, who can be contacted at 0469 870 413.

The Frankston & Mornington Peninsula Amateur Radio Club can be reached at PO Box 65 Patterson Lakes Vic. 3197, or directly at their Patterson Lakes address. Their website provides further information, and they can be contacted by phone at 0490 900 279.

The dedicated committee members leading FAMPARC include President Craig Shine VK3NCR (0412 674 194), Secretary Michael Ryan VK3AFG (0425 425 795), and Treasurer Colin Reynolds VK3CR (0438 001 654).

Nestled in a radio-friendly location, the Frankston & Mornington Peninsula Amateur Radio Club provides a welcoming environment, excellent facilities, and active on-air opportunities for amateur radio enthusiasts on the Mornington Peninsula and beyond.
