The PI3NOV repeater is a vital communication hub located in 't Harde (WW-locator JO22WJ). It operates on FM mode, with an input frequency of 145.075 MHz and an output frequency of 145.675 MHz, requiring a 77.0 Hz CTCSS tone for access.
Recently, due to external circumstances, the traditional power supply for PI3NOV at its current location was disconnected. To ensure its continued operation, the repeater committee ingeniously converted the system to solar energy.
A standout feature of PI3NOV is its special "Roger-beep," which provides real-time information about the battery's condition through varying pitch:
- At a normal operating voltage of 24 volts, the beep is 500 Hz.
- When fully charged (voltage above 27 V), the beep rises to 750 Hz.
- If the pitch drops to 250 Hz, it indicates the voltage is at 22V, meaning the batteries are almost depleted.
- To protect the batteries from deep discharge, the repeater automatically shuts down when the voltage is too low.
A dedicated circuit was designed to implement this innovative battery status indicator.
