P62 – A Club Without Borders, A Signal Without Static

In the analogue world of antennae and airwaves, Ortsverband P62 Virtuelles Württemberg operates on a digital frequency of its own. Where most local chapters of the Deutscher Amateur-Radio-Club (DARC) are grounded in geography, P62 thrives in the cloud—both metaphorically and literally.

Founded as a virtual Ortsverband with no physical location, P62 is perhaps the most modern embodiment of ham spirit in the DARC network. It welcomes operators who prefer to build their radios in basements in Bavaria or decode CW in cabins near Zurich—no travel required, just connection.

Why Join P62? Ten Seconds of Wisdom

In their own words, “We make decisions collectively, but pressure no one to participate.” That is the spirit of P62: freedom with structure, and structure without rigidity. The club’s approximately 80 members are distributed across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland—many of whom only occasionally engage in club affairs, while others are deeply active in Field Days, Contests, and POTA operations.

The Nextcloud-based digital infrastructure forms the operational heart of the club, offering private messaging, file exchange, and a shared calendar. Its Messenger—running on the NextCloud Talk app—functions like a modern-day repeater: always on, always responsive.

Two Meetings, Infinite Conversations

P62 holds regular video meetings through the DARC’s own server:

  • “Stammtisch” on the 3rd Wednesday of odd-numbered months—an open, informal roundtable.

  • Official OV-Abend on the 2nd Monday of even-numbered months—complete with talks, planning, and democratic decisions.

Attendance is modest—about a dozen members typically tune in—but quality trumps quantity. And the asynchronous nature of the chat groups ensures that no voice is lost in the noise of real-time.

The Club for Everyone, and for No One in Particular

From CW enthusiasts to POTA adventurers, from digital mode tinkerers to old-guard greybeards with 50-year licenses, P62 welcomes all identities under the HAM umbrella. One doesn’t even need to reside in Württemberg—the membership map stretches far across the DACH region.

What binds them together is not a shared zip code, but a shared ethos: curiosity, respect, and the freedom to engage—or not.
