A Mission Beyond Earth
Since its affiliation in 1989, W5RRR has been at the forefront of supporting NASA activities. Its specialties range from digital modes and DXing to public service and emergency communication. Among its many contributions, the club is integral to:
- ARISS (Amateur Radio on the International Space Station): Facilitating radio contacts between students and astronauts aboard the ISS.
- Emergency Communications: Providing back-up communication links for the ISS and NASA’s Emergency Operations Center.
- Astronaut Training: Teaching astronauts to use amateur radio equipment onboard the ISS.
Weekly Net and Meetings
Every Tuesday at 7:00 PM local time, the W5RRR repeater (146.64 MHz output/146.04 MHz input, tone 123.0 Hz) comes alive with the club’s weekly information net. This session is open to all, providing updates, camaraderie, and an opportunity for the community to engage with the club’s activities.
Monthly meetings are held on the second Thursday at 7:00 PM at the NASA JSC Gilruth Recreation Center, offering a space for members to collaborate and plan future endeavors.
