Welcome to the Melbourne Electronics And Radio Club (MERC), operating under the callsigns VK3FSK and VK3RBW. Situated at the 1st Keilor Village Scout Hall, located at 2 Bonfield Street, Keilor VIC 3036, approximately 20 kilometers north-west of the Melbourne CBD, MERC serves as a welcoming hub for amateur radio and electronics enthusiasts of all ages and experience levels, whether licensed "hams" or those simply curious about the field.
MERC is dedicated to supporting individuals interested in obtaining or upgrading their amateur radio licenses. The club proudly has two ACMA/AMC-qualified assessors who can provide guidance and assistance in studying and preparing for the required examinations. Conveniently, license examinations can be taken at the club when candidates feel ready. These examinations are held at the club as needed, ensuring a familiar and supportive environment.
Under normal circumstances, MERC holds its regular club meetings every Friday night at the Clubrooms, commencing at 8:00 pm. An exception is made for Fridays that fall on public holiday weekends, allowing members to enjoy the extended break.
In addition to their weekly meetings, the club also conducts semi-regular Guest Speaker Evenings, offering opportunities to learn from experts and explore diverse topics within electronics and radio. These evenings are held either in person at the Clubrooms or online via Zoom, catering to different preferences and accessibility. For those who can't attend live, videos of previous Guest Speaker Nights are available for viewing on YouTube (at the provided link: https://www.youtube.com/@VK3FSK).
MERC is actively involved in various ongoing projects, including antenna construction, providing hands-on learning opportunities for members. A core activity of the club is their weekly meetings, fostering a sense of community and shared learning. Furthermore, MERC maintains a strong and positive relationship with the 1st Keilor Village Scout Group, contributing to a sound community connection.
