Maryborough's Welcoming Signals: A Club for All Enthusiasts

Maryborough, Queensland - Formed in 2006, the Maryborough Electronics & Radio Group (VK4MB) prides itself on being an inclusive club, drawing members from diverse backgrounds including licensed amateur operators, CB enthusiasts, and electronics aficionados with varying levels of expertise. A core commitment of the group is the sharing of knowledge, and they actively engage in amateur radio training initiatives.

The club's premier annual event is providing crucial communications support for the Fraser Coast Technology Challenge, held in Maryborough. Their involvement is particularly significant during the gruelling 24-hour human-powered vehicle race. The club extends a warm invitation to operators of all experience levels to participate in this event, highlighting it as an excellent introduction to message handling for beginners.

The Maryborough Electronics & Radio Group holds its meetings with a unique bi-monthly schedule:

  • Formal meetings take place on the second Sunday of each odd-numbered month at 10:30 hrs at their default venue: 9 Avon Street.
  • Informal meetings are held on the second Sunday of each even-numbered month, also at the default venue of 9 Avon Street. However, members are advised to listen out following the WIA News rebroadcast for any alternative arrangements.

The Maryborough Electronics & Radio Group actively supports the Fraser Coast Technology Challenge, which in 2020 was scheduled for September 11th, 12th, and 13th.

The Maryborough Electronics & Radio Group's default meeting location is 9 Avon Street, Maryborough.

The club is dedicated to fostering new amateur radio operators by offering structured training programs. Foundation training is conducted over five Saturday mornings and is organized as needed based on demand. Standard training is offered over a six-week period (longer if necessary) and is also arranged according to demand. For those seeking to upgrade, the club will arrange Advanced training to suit the schedules of both the candidate and the trainer upon request. Recognizing individual learning needs, individualized training is also available to cover various specific requirements.

Assessments are conducted as candidates reach the necessary level of preparedness, with scheduling arranged at times mutually convenient for both the candidate and the assessors. Ray Stockdale VK4TPT serves as the club's training course coordinator and can be contacted at 0417 312 489.

The Maryborough Electronics & Radio Group can be reached at PO Box 339, Maryborough Qld 4650, or by phone at 0409 398 853.
