The Lanierland Amateur Radio Club (LARC) in Oakwood, Georgia, boasts a rich history of serving the community for over 50 years. Their dedication to ham radio and commitment to public service make them a valuable asset to Hall County and surrounding areas.
A Legacy of Service
Founded in 1965, LARC has consistently evolved to meet the needs of the community. Originally the Lanierland VHF Society, they later changed their name to reflect the broader scope of their interests. They carry the call sign W4ABP, a tribute to one of their founding members, Howard "Bo" Collins.
Dedicated to Public Safety
LARC prioritizes public service and emergency preparedness. Many members actively participate in local, state, and national disaster relief efforts. They collaborate with organizations like ARES (Amateur Radio Emergency Service), the American Red Cross, and SKYWARN to provide crucial communication support during emergencies and relay weather information to the National Weather Service.
Investing in the Future
The club recognizes the importance of attracting new members and fostering the next generation of ham radio operators. They offer entry-level and general/higher license classes, mentoring programs, and license testing sessions, creating a welcoming environment for beginners.
Staying Connected
LARC holds monthly meetings on the last Tuesday of each month at 7:00 PM at the United Community Bank (3785 Mundy Mill Rd., Oakwood, GA). They also maintain repeaters and provide on-the-air bulletins to keep members informed and connected.
