Lake Travis Amateur Radio Club (LTARC): Waves of Connection and Preparedness

Nestled in the serene surroundings of the Lake Travis and Northshore area, the Lake Travis Amateur Radio Club (LTARC) is a beacon of community and emergency readiness. Despite being a relatively new addition to the amateur radio landscape, established in 2018, LTARC has swiftly become an essential hub for radio operators and enthusiasts alike.

Gathering Over Barbeque

LTARC’s monthly meetings are as much about fellowship as they are about radio. Held on the third Saturday of each month at 8:30 AM, the club gathers at J&J Barbeque & Burgers in Lago Vista, TX. Against the backdrop of sizzling barbeque and camaraderie, members discuss projects, share expertise, and foster connections.

A Mission Rooted in Service

The club was formed with a clear purpose: to support emergency communications during disasters. With its location in a region prone to severe weather, LTARC prioritizes readiness, ensuring that its members and equipment are prepared to serve the community in critical times.

Beyond disaster response, LTARC also welcomes:

  • All Radio Operators: From beginners to seasoned experts, LTARC invites everyone with a passion for the airwaves.
  • Future Licensees: With a strong mentorship program, the club nurtures aspiring operators, offering Entry-Level License Classes and resources for advancement.
  • Diverse Interests: Whether it’s contesting, exploring digital modes, or delving into DXing, LTARC caters to a broad spectrum of amateur radio pursuits.

A Close-Knit Community

While LTARC is small, with just five dedicated members, its size belies its impact. The club’s officers, led by President Marvin L. Smith (K3MRV) and supported by Vice President Paul Bennett (K5BFR), ensure that every voice is heard, and every idea is explored. Their commitment fosters a sense of belonging and collaboration that extends beyond the meeting room.

Building Connections, Strengthening Resilience

Through its repeaters, club newsletter, and active engagement with the local community, LTARC emphasizes the importance of connection. The club’s focus on communication extends to educational initiatives, ensuring members are equipped with the knowledge and skills to excel in both everyday operations and emergency situations.
