The Batemans Bay Amateur Radio Society welcomes enthusiasts to connect on the picturesque South Coast. While the club currently operates on an informal basis following the departure of some committee members, the spirit of amateur radio remains strong amongst its diverse membership.
The Society boasts members with a wide array of interests, spanning the full spectrum of radio communication, from satellite links and the intricacies of HF, VHF, and even VLF bands, to the hands-on world of amplifier construction and the meticulous restoration of historical radio equipment. This breadth of expertise creates a rich environment for learning and sharing knowledge.
Unfortunately, the club's local repeater on 147.075 MHz sustained damage during the bushfires and is yet to be fully restored. In the interim, those wishing to connect can reach fellow members via the Bega repeater on 146.750 MHz.
Visitors to the Batemans Bay area are warmly encouraged to reach out. The Society holds its informal meetings at the Batemans Bay Yacht Club, located at Hanging Rock Place, on the second Wednesday of each month from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. This provides a relaxed setting to connect with local "hams" and share their passion for radio.
The Batemans Bay Amateur Radio Society continues to be a point of contact and connection for radio enthusiasts on the South Coast, fostering the enduring spirit of amateur radio in the region.
For further information, the Batemans Bay Amateur Radio Society can be contacted at 27 Greendale Close, Surf Beach, Batemans Bay NSW 2536, or by phone at (02) 4472 2467. The current point of contact is President Peter Elekessy (VK2AN), who can also be reached at the same phone number.
