Katy Amateur Radio Society (KT5TX): Amplifying Community and Connection

Located just west of Houston, the Katy Amateur Radio Society (KARS) stands as a vibrant hub for amateur radio enthusiasts. Since its establishment in 1981, KARS has brought together individuals passionate about exploring the world of radio communication and serving their community.

Monthly Meetings and Gatherings

Every second Monday of the month, members convene at the Westlake Volunteer Fire Department for engaging discussions, technical workshops, and camaraderie. These meetings are a platform to exchange knowledge, plan activities, and welcome newcomers eager to delve into the amateur radio world.

Field Day, Emergency Support, and Community Outreach

KARS is a cornerstone of public service and emergency preparedness. The club actively supports:

  • ARRL Field Day and Winter Field Day
  • Emergency operations with ARES, RACES, MARS, and CERT
  • Community events like the Houston Marathon, Texas MS 150, and local safety initiatives such as the Katy Area Safety Fest.

Through these efforts, KARS reinforces its commitment to using radio communication as a tool for community resilience and engagement.

Education and Mentorship

One of the club's most cherished traditions is its dedication to Elmering—mentoring new operators in the art and science of amateur radio. Offering:

  • Entry-Level License Classes
  • General and Advanced License Classes
  • Testing Sessions

KARS ensures that everyone, from beginners to seasoned operators, has a pathway to grow and succeed.
