MISKOLC, Hungary — The Diósgyőri Rádióklub (Diósgyőr Radio Club), operating under the callsign HA9KPZ, stands as a resilient beacon of amateur radio in North Hungary. Located at the Bartók Béla Művelődési Ház, Andrássy út 15, Miskolc, it is currently the sole surviving amateur radio club in the region, a testament to its dedicated members amidst significant changes in the post-1990s landscape.
A History Forged in Industry
The Amateur Radio Club of Diósgyőr, HA9KPZ, was founded in 1969 by workers of the then-flourishing Machinery Works of Diósgyőr. Early founding members included:
- HA9OG Sándor Doszpoly (†2011)
- HA9OK Sándor Szabó K. (†2010)
- HA9RA Ottó Ádám Tomko (†2011)
- László Hillai
- János Papp
Sándor Szabó (HA9OK) served as the club's first chairman until 1992. A pioneer in the field, he was the first National champion of VHF fox-hunting in 1958. His profound influence continued until his passing in 2010. He also founded the HA9KOK youth club, where he mentored numerous individuals, imparting technical knowledge and instilling a deep passion for ham radio.
The club fondly remembers HA9OK and HA9RA, often seen operating as HA9KPZ/P in VHF contests. They also pay tribute to many other dedicated individuals who contributed significantly to amateur radio in their region, including HG9EZ, HA9OC, HA9OL, HA9OT, HA9OS, HA9OG, HA9OZ, HA9PA, HA9PH, HA9RB, HA9RU, and others.
Remembering Past Clubs and Achievements
The Diósgyőri Rádióklub also commemorates other once-famous clubs and collectives from the region:
- HA9KOB: Central City Radio-Club
- HA9KOL: Club of Metalworkers
- HA9KOZ: Club of the University of Technics Miskolc
- HG9R: Contest station of the County HA9-area (HF World Champion 1987)
Despite the closure of the Machinery Works, whose name they proudly retain, and the desolate sight of its abandoned buildings, the club aims to draw strength from its history.
Current Goals and Activities
The current members are committed to revitalizing the HA9-area's involvement in HAM sports and to actively operate the HA9KPZ callsign again in contests on both HF and VHF bands.
Current active members include: HA5UK, HA9AP, HG9BG, HA9CE, HG9EJ, HG9DOZ, HA9GCS, HA9HU, HA9HJC, HG9JCL, HA9MBB, HA9MCR, HA9MDO, HG9MFW, HG9MJI, HA9OM, HA9PB, HA9PS, HA9PY, HA9RQ, HA9SP, HA9TA, HA9TC, and foxhunter Gábor Attila Kovács.
In 2014, for their 45th foundation anniversary, the club was active on the bands as HG45DRK.
As a self-financing organization, the club greatly appreciates any donations to help them achieve their goals. The team of HA9KPZ expresses optimism for the future, viewing it as fun and conducive to development. They look forward to meeting fellow enthusiasts on the air.
