The High Desert Amateur Radio Group (W7JVO) is a vibrant community of amateur radio operators based in Bend, Oregon. Since its affiliation on July 18, 2001, the group has become a key resource for both experienced and budding radio operators in the region. The club offers a wealth of opportunities for learning, networking, and advancing in the amateur radio hobby.

The High Desert Amateur Radio Group (HDARG) is known for its diverse range of activities and specialties, including:

Meeting Times and Locations

The High Desert Amateur Radio Group holds meetings in two formats:

  • Weekly: Every Wednesday at noon at Jake's Diner on Highway 20 in Bend.
  • Monthly: The first Thursday of each month at 7 PM at the Mid Oregon FCU (1386 NE Cushing, Bend, OR).

The club is led by President Brady A. Remsen (W7YPZ), Vice President David M. Green (N5LR), and Treasurer John P. Cherry (KE7GYB), with B Max Vaughan (KF7MAX) serving as the Secretary and Editor. The club has a total of 77 members, with all of them being licensed amateur radio operators and 56 ARRL-affiliated members.


Community and Educational Focus

The High Desert Amateur Radio Group is committed to fostering a supportive community. The club’s initiatives include offering mentorship to new operators and providing access to various resources for learning and improving one’s skills. The club’s members also engage in activities like Field Day and JOTA (Jamboree on the Air), creating a space where both seasoned operators and newcomers can bond over shared interests in amateur radio.
