Description

The Gopher Amateur Radio Club at the University of Minnesota is a technology-focused club. They focus on building cutting-edge analog and digital repeater systems with wide-area coverage across the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota. Some of their notable achievements include:

  • The first D-Star system in Minnesota in 2008, still operational as W0YC B 443.425 Minneapolis.
  • The first DMR / MotoTRBO system in Minnesota in 2014, still operational as NH7CY/R 442.425 Minneapolis.
  • The Twin Cities' widest-area coverage two-way APRS I-GATE gateway as W0YC-5 on 144.390, established in 2010.
  • The first wide-area coverage GMRS repeater in 2005, still operational as WPXX954 on 462.650.

The club also maintains an HF station on the East Bank campus and welcomes station tours and membership from students, alumni, and licensed amateur radio operators.
