Club Description: The Golden Empire Amateur Radio Society (GEARS) was established on August 13, 1939, by eleven Amateur Radio operators from throughout the Northern Sacramento Valley. GEARS members are passionate about various aspects of amateur radio, including HF, VHF, UHF, and other modes. The organization strives to represent all interests and promote the exchange of information and cooperation among members. GEARS is dedicated to advancing the general interest of amateur radio service and is committed to serving the community through public service and emergency communication services.

GEARS provides communications support for bike races, charity walks, and other local and regional public events. In collaboration with the Butte County Amateur Radio Emergency Service (BCARES), GEARS members are prepared to offer emergency communication services in the event of a natural or man-made disaster.

The Golden Empire Amateur Radio Society is committed to education, public service, and recreational purposes of amateur radio. The club also aims to elevate the standards of operating practices and ethics in amateur radio communications.
