Founded in 1963, the Geelong Radio & Electronics Society (GRES), proudly operating under the callsign VK3ANR, emerged from a vision of Radio Amateurs seeking to deepen their and others' skills and knowledge across the ever-evolving landscape of electronics. This foundational principle continues to drive the club today, offering members opportunities to learn and share special interests in cutting-edge technologies.
GRES fosters enthusiasm not only for the traditional and modern digital modes of Amateur Radio but also for a broad spectrum of electronic applications. These include micro-controllers, 3D printing, robotic devices, and their related software, recognizing their increasing complexity and accessibility to individuals.
The club warmly encourages membership from people of all ages and experience levels, whether they are licensed radio amateurs or simply have an interest in these fascinating fields. If you are eager to learn and experiment in any of these areas, GRES invites you to reach out.
The Geelong Radio & Electronics Society holds its regular club meetings every Tuesday evening from 1900 Hrs (7 pm). Members have the option to attend in person at their club meeting room or participate remotely via their Zoom option, ensuring accessibility for all.
GRES also conducts the VK3ANR 2-meter Net every Wednesday night at 2000 Hrs (8 pm) on 146.525 MHz FM simplex. All are welcome to join this informal net for a friendly chat.
At their weekly meetings, GRES occasionally schedules Guest Speakers to present on topics of interest, and members frequently share their expertise through presentations on their own activities.
Currently, due to a recent eviction from their long-held clubrooms by the local Council, GRES is temporarily unable to offer the practical radio and electronics workshop activities that were previously available. However, the club assures enthusiasts to "watch this space" for future developments in this area.
Having celebrated its 60th Anniversary in 2023, the Geelong Radio & Electronics Society has numerous plans for future activities in the pipeline, indicating a continued commitment to its members and the broader community. Details of forthcoming meeting activities and items of interest can be found on their website.
