E51SGC – Rarotonga: A Pacific Journey Through the Airwaves

The tropical serenity of Rarotonga, Cook Islands has come alive with the sounds of global communication as Stan LZ1GC and Ted LZ5QZ operate under the callsign E51SGC. From November 6-24, 2024, their mission brings the charm of the South Pacific to radio enthusiasts worldwide.

Battling Nature to Stay QRV

Operating from an island paradise is not without its challenges. A fierce storm swept through Rarotonga earlier this week, damaging antennas and forcing the team to temporarily rely on FT4 for communications. However, thanks to their skill and determination, the antennas were swiftly repaired, and the station is now fully active across 160-6m bands, utilizing CW, SSB, FT8/FT4, and RTTY.

A DXpedition in Pictures

The team has captured their journey through stunning images that highlight their setup, challenges, and collaborations. One such photo features the team with E51JD, a local radio operator who has extended his warm hospitality to the visitors.

10,000 QSOs and Counting

As of November 15, the E51SGC team has reached nearly 10,000 QSOs, making their presence on the bands one of the most anticipated events of the year. Their perseverance through technical and environmental obstacles showcases the indomitable spirit of amateur radio.

Future Adventures

This DXpedition is part of a larger Pacific journey. Following their time in Rarotonga, Stan and Ted will head to Tonga to operate as A35GC, continuing their mission to connect remote corners of the world with the global amateur radio community.
