ARI Genova (IQ1GE): Your Hub for Amateur Radio in the Heart of the City

Genova, Italy – The A.R.I. (Associazione Radioamatori Italiani) Sezione di Genova, identified by its call sign IQ1GE, is a vibrant and well-equipped local chapter for amateur radio enthusiasts.

The section is located in the heart of Genoa, at SALITA DI CARBONARA 65/B, 16125 GENOVA GE, on the ground floor of the Don Milani middle school (locator JN44LJ). For inquiries, you can contact President IK1QHU Paroldi Carlo.

Meetings are held every Friday from 9:00 PM to 11:00 PM.

Our Section: A Comprehensive Setup

The Genova section is thoughtfully laid out into five distinct areas to support various amateur radio activities:

  • Spacious Entrance with QSL Mailroom: Upon entering, members find the QSL mailroom, where they can send their confirmation postcards through the bureau and eagerly await QSLs from around the world, perhaps even from a rare station. This service is impeccably managed by their friend I1UP (thanks, Giorgio!).
  • Secretary's Office: A small corridor leads to the right, where the secretary's office handles all bureaucratic matters of the section.
  • Radio Station: To the left of the corridor is the highly frequented and desired radio station. This space is used for various section events and allows every member to dive into the magical world of the airwaves, experiencing the thrill of DX (long-distance communication) offered by the section's radios and antennas.
  • Classroom Area: A portion of the large salon hosting the radio station is dedicated to courses for aspiring radio amateurs, which the section offers once a year.
  • Well-Equipped Laboratory: Further down the corridor, an excellently equipped laboratory is available for repairs, constructions, and calibrations of all section equipment and more. For members who don't have their own lab, it's a great opportunity to try their hand at calibrating and testing their own "toys."

Modern Amenities and Advanced Antennas

The section is also equipped with PCs connected to the internet and a Wi-Fi system for free network access with personal portable devices (laptops, phones, or Wi-Fi-enabled handhelds).

On the fortunate flat roof of the building, there's a 7-meter high mast hosting a rotor with a 6-element directive antenna for the 6, 10, 12, 15, 17, and 20-meter bands. The antenna park also includes two 144/430 MHz verticals, one 50/144/430 MHz vertical, and a vertical and a dipole for the 40-80 meter bands.

Furthermore, the section is active on APRS with the call sign IQ1GE. They operate a weather station that sends data online 24/7 and a webcam that sends a photo to the server every 2 minutes.
