The Adirondack Amateur Radio Association (AARA), based in Northern New York State, is dedicated to providing disaster preparedness, emergency communications, and public service communications throughout the region. Operating under the call sign K2ARA, the AARA has been a cornerstone in supporting local governmental agencies, non-profits, and communities with reliable radio communications.
Mission and Purpose
The core mission of the Adirondack Amateur Radio Association is to:
- Provide emergency public safety communications in support of agencies operating in and around the Adirondacks.
- Ensure primary and secondary communications links for governmental and non-profit organizations when necessary.
- Train volunteers in amateur radio emergency services through simulated emergency tests (SETS) and other training methods.
- Educate the public on subjects beneficial to both individuals and the wider community.
- Raise funds to support and advance the programs and activities of the association.
Meetings and Educational Programs
The AARA holds meetings on the third Monday of each month at 5:30 PM. While the specific meeting place is to be determined, the club is committed to ongoing training and educational programs, such as entry-level license classes, hamfests, and license testing sessions.
The AARA also focuses on providing on-the-air bulletins, mentoring, and operating repeaters for better communications in their community.
