3D2AG/P – Rotuma Update

3D2AG/P – Rotuma Update

Antoine, operating as 3D2AG/P, has provided an update on his recent DXpedition from Rotuma, a remote island in the South Pacific.

Current Health Status and Log Updates

Antoine is recovering from a viral infection and cellulitis that significantly impacted his ability to operate and complete the DXpedition tasks. While he was bedridden for several days, he is now slowly improving. However, he is still not able to walk much more than around his house.

During this time of recovery, Antoine is digitizing the 3D2AG/P logs, which include almost 10,000 QSOs, with a high proportion of contacts made on CW/SSB with European stations. The logs are expected to be uploaded to Club Log by mid-week.

DXpedition Recap

  • Dates: The boat to Fiji left Rotuma on Monday, November 18th, and Antoine is now back home.
  • Health Issues: Antoine contracted a severe cellulitis infection in his leg, which caused him to be bedridden for several days. This, combined with a viral infection, created significant operational and logistical challenges.
  • Assistance: Fortunately, Gregg W6IZT and Jamie M0SDV visited Antoine on November 17th and helped dismantle the remaining antennas so that he could catch the boat to Fiji.

Challenges During the Trip

Antoine was unable to activate the 160m, 80m, and 40m bands, primarily due to health and logistical challenges of operating solo. Despite these limitations, he was able to provide valuable QSOs, especially with Europe, which was likely a rare opportunity for many operators.

Acknowledgments

Antoine thanks everyone who made contact with him, especially those who worked him via manual paddle key and microphone. Despite the difficulties, he hopes his efforts provided new opportunities for operators who needed Rotuma for their DXCC or other awards.

This may be Antoine's last Rotuma operation for a while, especially considering the number of other Rotuma operations that have taken place recently.

Future Log Upload and QSL Information

  • Log Upload: The Rotuma logs will be uploaded on Club Log in the coming days, allowing you to check for your QSO and confirm the contact.
  • QSL Info: Please stay tuned for more information about QSLing once the logs are fully processed.

Stay tuned for more updates and thank you to all who participated in this challenging but successful DXpedition!
