🛑 ZS8W – Marion Island Goes QRT
After nearly three weeks of intense activity, Yuris YL2GM, operating as ZS8W from Marion Island, has officially gone QRT as of 1115z on May 13, 2025. His DXpedition ends with over 30,000 QSOs logged — a phenomenal achievement from one of the top 15 most wanted DXCCs worldwide (currently #11 overall, #2 CW, #3 Digi per Club Log).
Originally planned to run until May 14, Yuris ended operations a day early, focusing on FT8 in the final hours. His logs have been updated frequently via Club Log, and a final upload is expected soon. The SA Agulhas II is scheduled to depart Marion Island on May 15, so teardown and container loading had to begin early.
Throughout his stay, Yuris worked all major HF bands with a mix of CW and FT8, also experimenting on 80m and 160m despite some antenna setbacks. While SSB was rarely heard, a few lucky operators snagged a rare 15m SSB contact.
This activation marks a huge win for DXers chasing an ATNO or new band fills from the subantarctic Prince Edward Islands.
